Statement
Living with a life limiting illness can cause a significant burden on the body, mind, soul, spirit, and relationship dynamics. Everyone experiencing this deserves access to excellent, compassionate, and comprehensive health care that prioritizes quality of life. Palliative care medicine focuses on managing complex pain and symptoms related to life limiting illnesses so patients can live as fully and comfortably as possible, rather than intentionally hastening death. We must advocate for the access of the highest standard of palliative care medicine to proactively manage symptoms, reduce emotional, physical, and spiritual distress, and support patients and their loved ones holistically.
